TVB Welcomes Veterans Return For Costume Drama

TVB costume drama Prosperous Times Outstanding Men <盛世人傑> held a costume fitting ceremony today, where the show's cast members were revealed to the press. The series marks the return of TVB veteran Lee Heung Kam (李香琴), after an absence of nearly 20 years. Other cast members in the grand historical drama will include Kent Cheng (鄭則士), Sunny Chan (陳錦鴻), Sonija Kwok (郭羨妮), Bernice Liu (廖碧兒), Claire Yiu (姚嘉妮) and Tracy Ip (葉翠翠).

Kent was pleased to be working with Kam again after their return from ATV and he said that they will be playing mother and son in the series. Kam revealed that she has accepted roles in two series for TVB after her return and as well as Prosperous, she will also be appearing in Heart of Greed 2 <溏心風暴2> that begins filming in January. Asked if this will be hard work to juggle two series, she said that she accepted them both because she did not want to disappoint the producers. She felt that they will look after her because she is getting older now and said that she is pleased that filming will be in the cooler winter months and generally studio based for this series. She added that everything, including all the faces, are very new to her now at TVB, but she has watched Bernice and Sonija's productions. She also commented that the talent, equipment and sets at TVB are far superior and the costumes are also much prettier.

Sonija revealed that she will be playing Kent's wife in the series and their characters have an eight year old son. Her role is that of a loving and caring mother and she is also the stepmother to Bernice's character. Asked if this series marks the end of her suspension following the negative press from last year, Sonija asked reporters not to keep mentioning it. When the reporters pointed out that she should be free from any gossip working with Kent, she smiled that she was very happy about that.

Asked if she is worried about being stereotyped into motherly figures now, Sonija said she does not mind because this is the journey of an actor. She said that the most important thing is getting to know her screen son, so that he will not be shy when they are filming.

In the series, Tracy will be playing a lady who is unhappy with keeping her place and she has learned from the producer that she, Claire and Queenie Chu (朱慧敏) will be sacrificing their bodies for their art as they have to appear in some sexy seethrough outfits in a water scene. Tracy was very pleased with her ancient costume look and received a lot of praise for how beautiful she looked. As a result, she hopes to film more period dramas in the future.

Bernice was very happy to have the opportunity to work with Kent and she said that thanks to some tips on how to read scripts from Steven Ma (馬浚偉), she is working hard on learning her lines. Asked if she is afraid of adding in some English words by accident, she smiled that she will not and she will be paying attention to her intonation. However, she knows that Kent works to very high standards, so she will try very to make sure that she knows her complex classical lines well, because many quotations cannot be altered. She also revealed that she will have some swordplay and action scenes in the drama.

Following Slicing Of The Demon <凶城計中計> last year, this series will be the second collaboration between Bernice and Sunny. He found out that his wife was expecting their first child during the filming of Slicing, so it was suggested to Sunny that he might be expecting a second child by the time he finishes filming this series.

This will be Kent's second series after returning to TVB and he said that he is confident that there will not be any gossip about him and Sonija. Asked if he was concerned about Bernice's poor grasp of Chinese slowing down progress, he said that as long as she learns her lines well, then it should not be a problem. When it was mentioned that Bernice was criticised over her pronunciation in Devil's Disciple <強劍> earlier, he defended her saying it was not her fault and she has been working hard to rectify it. Sonija and Roger Kwok have just finished filming their latest mainland series 'Eight Immortals'
(八仙全傳) in Shanghai, besides the two of them, Akina Hong was also one of the cast members.

Sonija Kwok:
''Back at last, after finishing 'Eight Immortals (八仙全傳), I'm very happay to be back.
This time while filming the series in Shanghai, I've got to know many new friends,
He ZhonHua whom I've got a lot of screen time with is a great actor.

Sonija will be in TVB's latest period drama 'The Legendary Ren Jia' which will start filming this month. This series will bring back two veterans in Kent and Kam. Other cast in the series includes Bernice, Leila, Tracy, Sunny, Mathew Ko etc.

Roger Kwok who was also involved in the series also thank his fans:
'I would like to thank the fans especially there was this occassion, the fans spent several hours on the journey just to visit me and presented me with my favourite milk'.

These characters appeared in Liang Yu Sheng's novel (and historical figures) but I highly doubt the story will be based on his novel. I think they are just making a historical serial, not exactly all wuxia. But we'll just have to wait and see. What's up with Bernice's hairstyle. I don't like it. It's great to see Lee Heung Kam back again. She's the best and most hateful Miu Jue to date for me. lol

Sonija Kwok Becomes Bernice Liu’s Mother

TVB’s new series 《盛世人傑》 had a worship ceremony for the first day of filming. The artistes in attendance were Bernice Liu, Sonija Kwok, Cheng Jut Si (鄭則士) and Li Xiang Qin (李香琴). Lydia Shum and Qin Jie (琴姐) are good friends. Qin Jie revealed that Lydia’s health is good recently. They went out for vegetarian dishes a month earlier. She encouraged her to be careful of the food she was eating. Sonija’s character in the series is the mother of Bernice and the stepmother of Matthew Ko. She is very happy to be called “mom” even though it is in the series only. For this series, there are a lot of ancient words for dialogue but fortunately Sonija’s Chinese is good. Sonija should be able to handle it. Lately there are reports that Michael Tao and his wife is reuniting. Sonija said that she would not respond to it.

Anyone watched this serie yet? The preview doesn't look too bad, but like any other tvb serie there is always a lack of female fighters. According to the preview only Bernice knows martial arts here. Rebecca Chan looks impressive as empress though. And I've grown fond of Sonija eversince DIE.
